First of all, welcome back! We’re so happy to be back again and share our favorite cleaning tips. And we know no one wants to break the bank before doing some house cleaning!
Today we’re sharing budget-friendly tips to help you keep your home clean without spending a ton of money.
These tips can be useful for those who are just moving out or in and want to learn how to manage their house cleaning budget.
At Memphis Maids, we understand life gets busy, and it’s hard to find time to clean, even more if you’re within a budget.
If you’re looking for ways to keep your home spotless, consider booking a house cleaning service. Nowadays, it’s not easy to find a good-quality cleaning service that is also affordable. If you have a tight schedule, hiring a cleaning service can saves you money in the long run.
Without further ado, let’s read some tips on how to clean your home on a budget!
Use Multipurpose House Cleaning Products
The biggest key is using multipurpose cleaners. Usually, the more specialized your cleaning products are, the more expensive.
Instead, look for multipurpose cleaning products, especially in bulk. Some great examples are gallons of white vinegar, or a 14lb bag of baking soda. Focus on products that you can use straight from the bottle to clean hard surfaces, and also dilute in water to soak items like clothes or dishes.
Other good examples are rubbing alcohol and mild dish soap. Just keep in mind you have to do some research before mixing them.
First, for safety reasons: mixing some of these products is dangerous and releases toxic fumes. Second, mixing them is actually less effective than using them individually.
There are some exceptions to this rule, though. You should use specialized cleaning products for sensitive surfaces, like hardwood floors, or granite countertops.
If you don’t have any, try using soap or any mild, neutral pH cleaner.

Find Reusable, Sustainable Cleaning Supplies
Although using disposable wipes or paper towels gets the job done faster, it’s also more expensive.
Instead, take some time to find alternatives that are reusable. A great example are 16 or 24-packs of industrial-grade microfiber cloths. Although they are pricey sometimes, if they’re good quality, they will last for years.
You can divide them in groups of 4 or 6 and assign each group to a different part of your home. Some of them are color-coded, which makes it easier.
Once you’re done with them, you can boil them in water with a cup of vinegar to disinfect them, and/or toss them in your washing machine.
The same goes for mop pads. Find an 8-pack of reusable mop pads, which you can toss in the washing machine once you’re done with cleaning your floors.
Stop Overusing Your Cleaning Products
One of the most valuable secrets you learn as a house cleaning professional is that (most) cleaning products are extremely efficient and concentrated. Just like it happens with toothpaste, the actual amount you need is less than what you see in ads.
Try concentrate cleaning products versus “regular” diluted cleaners. You will need to test different concentrations of your laundry detergent or your dishwashing liquid. The less you need to get your items clean, the better.
The same goes for other cleaning products like floor cleaner or toilet disinfectant.
Once you find the sweet spot, your items will be rinsed faster, you will save money, and also avoid soap scum.

Take Sunlight to Your Advantage
Sunlight is one of the most effective cleaning agents, and it’s free! You can use it as a natural disinfectant for your bedding, for example. Even your rugs need some sunlight, ideally twice a month.
Air your bedding using a clothesline for 2 – 3 hours. You can also hang your t-shirt and shorts when you come back from the gym.
Sunlight will reduce the moisture in the surface, making it harder for microbes or bacteria to grow. This reduces the need for excessive washing, which makes you save water and detergent in the long run.
Conclusion
There you have it! Four quick and simple tips to clean your home on a budget. Take your time to do some research about cleaning products, try them both on their own and mixed and compare your results.
