Welcome back to Memphis Maids! We hope you had fun this weekend, but now it’s time to clean your home after Halloween. Here are our tips to get it done quickly!

We all love to decorate our homes for Halloween and enjoy this weekend with friends and family. But now that the party’s over, all we got left is a messy house.

Now it’s time for some cleaning! We have some cleaning tips and tricks to make sure your home gets back to normal in one day!

Without further ado, let’s learn how to clean our home after Halloween!

Start With the Obvious: Gather Halloween Trash and Décor

If you love decorating your home for Halloween, we’re sure by now you have a lot of décor that has to go. From candy wrappers to fake spider webs, it’s time to get your space back to its pre-Halloween state.

The fastest way to finish is by grabbing a large trash can or a trash bag and tossing the single-use items. If you have two compartments to toss your reusable items, even better!

It’s faster if you do a second “run” but this time with a two-step ladder to grab all hanging décor like spider webs.

Declutter and Reorganize Your House After Halloween

Once you’ve taken down your Halloween decorations, it’s time to organize your items back where they belong.

Decluttering is a fantastic way to get rid of items that no longer work for you or that you no longer use. You can sort your items in three bins or boxes: discard, donate, or keep.

If you have a lot of items, you might want to get a labeler which is useful for other areas of your home like your garage, your kitchen or your bathroom.

Clean Your Countertops and Other Flat Surfaces

After tidying up and removing loose items, it’s time to wipe your surfaces clean. This includes countertops, tables, desks and other surfaces, especially if they had snacks or decorations.

If you have granite or marble countertops, you should use a specialized stone cleaner. If you don’t have one, you can use warm, soapy water (made with mild dish soap).

The same goes for hardwood surfaces, like dining tables or desks. A slightly damp cloth with a few drops of dish soap should be enough. Follow up with a dry cloth to absorb any moisture.

Pro-tip: after drying your wooden surfaces, you might want to wipe them again, but this time with a few drops of beeswax or a commercial wood polish for extra shine and protection.

Leave Your Floors for Last

As always, remember to leave your floors for last. Always work from top to bottom and, as a final step, you will sweep / vacuum everything that fell naturally.

Start by vacuuming carpets and rugs. Vacuuming will be especially helpful if you want to clean your home after Halloween properly. Your floors are probably filled with dirt, food crumbs and glitter from any fun costumes or masks!

Right before vacuuming, spritz some white vinegar to absorb odors, at least temporarily.

Vacuum in a Z pattern, moving forward slowly to the left/right and then walking back in a straight line. This way, you will vacuum the entire surface twice and in all directions (diagonal and vertical).

For hard floors, sweep and mop with a cleaning solution suitable for your floor type. If you’re running short on time, use a flat mop with 6 – 8 washable mop heads.

Outside, sweep the porch, driveway, and sidewalks to clear any leaves, hay, or pumpkin remnants. If you used chalk, fake spider webs, or other outdoor decor, make sure to scrub those off surfaces, with either a microfiber cloth or a soft toothbrush.

Bonus Tips

Remember checking behind and under your furniture! Most candy wrappers, costume accessories and crumbs end up behind your chairs or your sofa.

Look for sticky spots in the kitchen, like candy or soda spots in your countertops or cabinets. You can use 2 drops of degreaser or dish soap in the area and scrub after 10 minutes.
